Maria Prattas

Maria is a graduate from the very first Living Earth Shiatsu School graduate class - (Class of 1999). Her passion for training and learning of Eastern Medicine and Spirituality continued with an additional 8.5 years of post-graduate training in Zen/Earth Shiatsu at the Living Earth Shiatsu School under the direction of Leny Carbone. She also trained and studied under Tets uro Saito (Shiatsu Centre) where she completed advanced studies in Shin So Shiatsu (Deeper Energy System). As well, she is a Certified Acupuncturist and Tuina (Chinese Massage) therapist from the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Toronto where she graduated with Honors.

Maria's deep Spiritual/Buddhist practice and study has taken her to Gampo Abbey, a monastery in Cape Breton-Nova Scotia, where she completed a two month intensive retreat under the Spiritual direction of Ani Pema Chodron, author of, "Start Where You Are." Other meditation work includes one year of work/study at Karme Choling (Shambhala Meditation/Retreat Centre) in Vermont, many Vipassana/Mindfulness retreats with Phillip Starkman and numerous Shiatsu-Nature Awareness-Meditation retreats with Leny Carbone.

She is a new addition to the Living Earth Clinic, though in the past worked out of the LES Professional Clinic located at 401 Richmond Street. Maria also worked for four years with Medical Doctors and Chinese Medicine Doctors at the O.A.A.T.C.M. clinic located at 360 Bloor St. W. During her extensive travels, work experiences and training at Buddhist Centres, Maria has offered treatments to the communities. She has also volunteered at many events in the Toronto community providing free treatments to people in need.

The result of her diverse training, practice and experience is a treatment approach that is really gentle, unique, effective, powerful and healing. Her intent is to act as a conductor of healing energy through touch. Touch is the way, we as humans directly communicate. This way and healing energy belongs to us all-it is innate, a birthright. Humans are her focus, not dis-ease. Empowerment, balance and harmony are the intention. Maria believes power lies within "intent", the intent of the client and the therapist. Maria calls this HUMANHARMONY.

Her particular focus is on women's health issues, the LGBT community, chronic conditions, addictions and mental health issues. Her specialty is in Pregnancy/Labor and home visits.
