What to expect with a shiatsu treatment:

A treatment typically lasts a half hour to an hour in duration.

Treatments are done over clothing - there is no need to remove clothing except perhaps jewellery and/or belts. Wearing loose and comfortable clothing is recommended. If possible, avoid wearing jeans.

Treatments are done on the ground on a mat (futon). Pillow and blanket, if necessary, are provided. If you are unable to be treated on the floor, a chair or table may be used. If you have concerns, please discuss this when booking your appointment.

Will it hurt?
Shiatsu therapists at The Clinic at the Living Earth Shiatsu School practice shiatsu in a way that is firm and gentle. All attempts to make you feel relaxed and at ease are made by the therapist. In congested or stagnant areas of the body there may be some discomfort while the area is being worked on, but it is described as a "good pain", one that is relieving and releasing for the body. The overall experience of shiatsu at the clinic is, however, pleasant and pleasurable. Additionally, the amount of pressure applied during a shiatsu treatment may always be modified according to individual client preferences. Talk to your therapist if you have any concerns before, during, or after a treatment.

How many visits are required?
Treatments are a relaxing experience and provide immediate benefits. Repeat visits may be indicated, and vary according to individual clients' needs. You can discuss this with your therapist on your initial visit.

Will there be any forms to fill out?
We use a client intake form which includes questions on basic demographic information (name, address, phone number) as well as questions that will help guide the therapist with respect to your individual needs. It is up to you to decide the amount of detail you wish to provide. All information will be kept confidential, and will not be released to a third party without your prior written consent.
